PRINT-FRIENDLY VERSION Lanham Napier President & CEO Rackspace Hosting, Inc. Interviewed on 09/24/2008 Provide an overview of Rackspace: Rackspace is the world leader in hosting. Today we serve over 30,000 customers in 100 different countries. We have 2,500 employees, we call every employee of Rackspace a “racker”. Alright, these “rackers” are focused on delivering fanatical support for our customers. Hosting is computing as a service, so what we do as a company is we combine the different technology components that an IT department would normally provide, we are a partner for that department, and we transform those technology components into a usable service by our customers. How does Rackspace’s Fanatical Support help differentiate your company from the competition? Fanatical Support is our secret sauce. It’s the reason we win in the marketplace. Fanatical Support is powered by 2,500 talented engaged Rackers volunteering their best every day for our customers. We live in a world that lacks world class service experiences today. What we do as a company is we transform a technology service into a pleasurable world class service experience. We call that Fanatical Support. What is Rackspace doing to become a greener company? At Rackspace, we’re the world’s hosting leader, and we’re concerned about the environment. We have a number of initiatives underway to help with environmental efforts. Over in the United Kingdom, you know, the new data center that we built is powered by a power plant that uses renewable energy. Here in the U.S., our new central offices in San Antonio, Texas, are going to be lead certified. We literally recycle tons of material to make our new headquarters building energy efficient. We also look at doing carbon offsets with respect to any new server that we deploy. What growth opportunities does Rackspace plan to pursue? Rackspace is a high growth company. We’ve grown greater than 50% a year for the last five years straight. We grow a couple different ways. You know, one way is through geographic expansion. We’ve increased our presence in Europe, we’re also expanding into Hong Kong as we sit here today. In terms of new service sets, we roll out additional services all the time to meet the demands and earn our customers’ trust. One of the initiatives we have that we’re very excited about is our new cloud computing platform. It’s called NOSO, and this is a very exciting emerging technology, as we use cloud technologies to power our business.
